Regulations for motorcycle turn signals

Motorcycle turn signals are mandatory for all larger motorcycles, for example to indicate your direction when turning. The only exceptions to this rule are light motorcycles, mopeds and scooters. However, we recommend that you also mount turn signals for your safety. It is important that you have 4 turn signals that are clearly visible to other road users from the front and back.

Only lights with amber light that have an indicator function are permitted. The indicators must be mounted symmetrically to the center of the vehicle and at the same height. Note the distance between the inner edges. The inner edges of the indicators must be at least 34 cm apart. The distance to the headlight must be at least 10 cm. When buying motorcycle turn signals, make sure that they have an E-mark or an ECE number. Without this mark, the turn signals are not approved for road use. The motorcycle LED turn signals, mini turn signals or even the running light turn signals in the MOTEA online shop usually have E-approval. They come with an ABE partial approval and can be easily installed.
