With the right motorcycle handlebar, you can ride safely on the roads

The motorcycle handlebar is more important than many people think at first. Almost all of the operation of a machine takes place at the motorcycle handlebar. Braking, clutching and accelerating are just a few of the functions that are operated at the handlebar. The motorcycle handlebar is not only technically very important, because a handlebar also makes a visual impact. However, standard handlebars are rather functional and don't have much to offer visually. Yet the handlebars are one of the most visible parts of your motorcycle.

Many bikers want to modify their motorcycle according to their own ideas. Components such as the fuel tank, exhaust pipe or even the handlebars are replaced. MOTEA offers you a wide selection of motorcycle handlebars in a wide range of shapes and colors to help you design your perfect custom bike.

Do I need to register a motorcycle handlebar?

A new motorcycle handlebar must be registered. This is done with a general operating permit (ABE) or a partial certificate. You should be able to present a certificate, especially for larger and more complex conversions. Otherwise, your machine is not approved for road use. Note that the maximum handle height is 500 mm above the seat surface.

It is important that the steering works perfectly after a conversion. This means that the handlebars must be free and must not squeeze anything. Especially if you want to replace the handlebars yourself, you should pay attention to the cables that are installed. You can quickly pinch these during the conversion. Likewise, you should have a basic knowledge of electrical engineering in order to reconnect the cables correctly after the conversion.

You should pay attention to this with your motorcycle handlebars

When buying a new motorcycle handlebar, you should pay particular attention to three things: the handlebar width, the three-dimensional bend and the distance between the steering head bearing and your hands. This is because the handlebar has a significant influence on the seating position and thus also on comfort.

Handlebar width

The handlebar width is crucial for the leverage of your handlebar. A wide handlebar offers more leverage and you have to use less force to steer through a curve. This is especially advantageous if you ride many curves and at higher speeds. A narrow motorcycle handlebar, on the other hand, is significantly more agile. The handlebar thus offers you better maneuverability. This can be an advantage in cities. However, the driver needs to exert significantly more force to move the handlebar.

Three-dimensional bending

This depends on how your new handlebars are bent. If they are bent correctly, you should sit comfortably. Three-dimensional bending is particularly important for ergonomic driving. For the driving experience, many bikers find a handlebar that is tilted slightly back more comfortable. The course of the handlebar ends points downwards.

There is no general answer to the question of which type of bend is most useful. Always make sure that the handlebars are approved for your motorcycle model. Otherwise, the choice of motorcycle handlebars depends on your own preferences.

Distance between the steering head bearing and your hands

The distance between the headset and your hands is crucial for comfort. If the distance between the headset and your hands is too great, your arms will be overstretched and therefore tire more quickly. If, on the other hand, the distance is too short, cramps may occur. If your handlebars are too low for you, we recommend installing a handlebar riser.

Your height and the type of bike play an important role in determining the optimal handlebar position. If you are particularly tall, you should make sure that your handlebars are set high enough. MOTEA offers you a wide selection of motorcycle handlebars with brands such as Craftride, Tourtecs and Zaddox.

Why should you attach handlebar weights to your motorcycle?

You can attach handlebar weights to the ends of your motorcycle handlebars to reduce vibrations transmitted through the handlebars while riding. This minimizes fatigue in the driver's hands and arms. This can make a big difference, especially on long trips. At the same time, handlebar weights improve your driving stability and comfort while riding.

Handlebar ends can also look good. With countless options in terms of shape, color and design, handlebar weights offer the perfect solution for customizing your bike. Not every motorcycle handlebar is suitable for every bike. So when buying a handlebar, make sure it is compatible with your motorcycle. Combine your new handlebars with new motorcycle grips to complete your customization.
